The purpose of the BA degree with a major in Music is to provide a general music education within a liberal arts setting. Students acquire and expand their knowledge of musicianship and performance which serve to develop their creative and musical potentials.
The Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with a Concentration in Music Technology is designed as a non-performance based program for music students interested in a technology-based program in music that provides instruction in a technology-based program in music that provides training and hands-on experience in performing/producing music using technology. Courses cover fundamentals of music technology, audio recording and post production, synthesis and signal processing, and audio for visual media.
Students may choose either the Choral Certification or the Instrumental Certification.

The minor in music consists of 20 semester hours of music courses (MUSA and MUST):
Music minors must demonstrate a proficiency in an an instrument or voice. Potential music minors must schedule a meeting with the Chair of the Department of Music prior to declaring a minor in music.
The minor in Music Technology consists of 16 hours of course work:
Potential candidates must demonstrate a basic knowledge of music reading by passing the Music Theory Placement Examination. If the examination is not passed, the student must enroll and pass MUST 101 (Basic Musicianship) and MUST 103 (Basic Aural Skills). MUST 298 is strongly recommended.
The Master of Music Degree in Conducting requires that all applicants hold a baccalaureate degree with a major in performance or music education (or their equivalent), from an accredited institution.
The Master of Music Education degree requires that all applicants hold a baccalaureate degree with a major in music education, or its equivalent, from an accredited institution. Students whose undergraduate degree does not carry certification in music should enroll in the Master of Arts in Teaching degree program through the Richard W. Riley College of Education.
The Master of Music Degree in Performance requires that all applicants hold a baccalaureate degree with a major in performance, or its equivalent, from an accredited institution.
