2019 Summer Camps

The Instructional Technology Center will be offering summer STEAM camps again for 2019.  Summer camps and dates will be announced sometime in mid-late March 2019.  Please check back for more information.


2018 Summer Camps

The Instructional Technology Center is happy to announce that we will be holding three STEAM camps this summer.  All camps are for middle school students and K-12 Teachers who are interested in learning technology skills to take back into their classrooms.


Morning - July 9-13 OR July 23-27 - 9 AM - 12 PM

Technology and Art

July 9-13 FULL (accepting 2 spaces on a waiting list), July 23-27 FULL (accepting 3 spaces on a waiting list)

Campers will explore the intersection of art and technology to produce various projects throughout the week.  At 11:00 AM on Friday, campers will invite parents to their art show to display projects completed during the week.

Monday - 3D printing- design an item to be 3D printed during the week to take home on Friday

Tuesday- Create art from old computer parts

Wednesday- Bloxels – create a video game

Thursday- Use various robots to create art tools and art projects

Friday- Electronic Circuits (soldering and sewing) or Green Screen tools to create stop motion animation videos and prepare for art show


Afternoon - July 9-13 - 1 PM - 4 PM

Block Based Programming Challenges 

(5 spaces remaining)

Campers will work together in groups to explore challenges using various block based programming tools throughout the week.  At 3:00 PM on Friday, campers will invite parents to complete a challenge designed by them throughout the week.

Monday- Ozobot Challenge

Tuesday- Ollie and Sphero Challenge

Wednesday- Circuit Playground Challenge

Thursday- mBot Challenge

Friday- Design a Challenge for parents and prepare for the parent showcase


Afternoon - July 23-27 - 1 PM- 4 PM

Introduction to Cybersecurity

(3 spaces remaining)

Campers will learn introductory information about cybersecurity.  Throughout the week, campers will engage in learning opportunities that encourage group work and outside the box thinking as they learn about cybersecurity basics.  Parents will be invited to attend a reception Friday at 3:00 PM to see what their campers have learned throughout the week.

Monday- Introduction to Cybersecurity

Tuesday- Online Safety

Wednesday- Networking Basics

Thursday- Cryptography

Friday- Digital Forensics and Cybersecurity Careers


Rising 6th grade through rising 8th grade and K-12 Teachers

Number of Openings

15 students and 5 teachers

Cost: Students

$100 per AM or PM session. ($95 for Winthrop employees)

$200 for all day. Includes AM and PM sessions plus supervision during the hour break between sessions.  Does not include lunch. ($190 for Winthrop employees)

Cost: Teachers

$25 per session or $40 for all day. (Does not include lunch)

Teachers are expected to participate with small groups of campers as they complete tasks and projects throughout the day.  During the last hour of the week, teachers will work in a small group to brainstorm and write ideas for lessons they can complete with students as a result of the content learned in camp.

Registration and Payment

Registration will be handled on a first come basis until camps are full.  A waiting list will be created if needed.  To sign up for camp, please visit the registration page at 2018 ITC STEAM Student Camps or 2018 ITC STEAM Teacher Camps.  You will be notified within one week of registration if we have remaining spaces available.  If we don’t have remaining spaces, then you will be notified of your place on the waitlist.

Payment in full by cash or check will be due no less than 2 weeks before the starting date of camp, once registration has been processed.  No refunds will be offered once camp is paid for unless we cancel camp due to lack of participation.  Camp will run with 8 students or more.


Camps will be held in the Instructional Technology Center (Room 307) in the Withers building at Winthrop University.  Grounds around the Withers building may be used for outdoor activities.
