Division of Human Resources, Employee Diversity and Wellness

Vice President's Welcome

Welcome to the Division of Human Resources, Employee Diversity and Wellness.  We are a newly created division as of October 1, 2015.  Our goal is to provide the best possible services, programs, and support to Winthrop employees.  The faculty and staff are the University’s #1 asset and our #1 priority.  As we begin to shape the future of this new division, we are excited about the opportunity to listen, learn, and respond by providing excellent customer service to meet the needs of all employees.  Please check back periodically for updates and be on the lookout for announcements about how this new division can better serve potential, new, and current employees.  Feel free to send your comments and suggestions to our office for consideration.

Thank you,

Lisa W. Cowart
Vice President for Human Resources,

HR News!!

  • Hazardous Weather:  As many of you know, authorization must be received from the Governor’s Office to allow Winthrop to provide leave with pay.  Please see detailed instructions for completing time sheets and leave reports prior to deadline.
  • The Affordable Care Act requires you to submit a form with your income tax return showing that you had "minimum essential" coverage for health insurance purposes.  Form 1095 provides information about your health plan, including coverage that was available and which individuals were covered.  If you were enrolled in health care coverage at any point during the 2015 calendar year through Winthrop, you will receive a Form 1095 no later than the federal deadline for distribution (March 31, 2016).  This form may also be available electronically via Wingspan, more details to follow.  The information provided on this form will also be submitted to the Internal Revenue Service.
  • The South Carolina Public Employee Benefit Authority (PEBA) contracts with a pharmacy benefits manager to administer the prescription drug program for the State Health Plan. PEBA is transitioning from Catamaran to Express Scripts as the pharmacy benefits manager. PEBA’s contract with Catamaran will end on December 31, 2015, and PEBA’s contract with Express Scripts will begin on January 1, 2016. Throughout this transition, members will maintain prescription drug coverage.  As a result of this vendor change, members may receive communication from Catamaran and Express Scripts. All members will receive welcome packets and new prescription drug ID cards from Express Scripts prior to January 1, 2016.  Members who are enrolled in the State Health Plan Medicare Prescription Drug Program will receive multiple letters from both Catamaran and Express Scripts. These letters are required communications by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and members should not be alarmed. Medicare Prescription Drug Program members will automatically be unenrolled from the Catamaran program and enrolled in the Express Scripts program without losing coverage.
