Proposal Development

Plan Develop Write

These are general guidelines on how the proposal development process flows.

Plan

  • Conceive your idea: What has already been done in the area? How do you plan to meaningfully add to the body of work?
  • Research funding agencies
  • Contact sponsor's Program Officer
  • Contact previous awardees
  • Organize your thoughts

Develop

  • Read and re-read funding notice for guidelines
  • Align your project with funding agency's areas of interest
  • Create a conceptual framework of your project: What do you want to do? How much will it cost? How long time will it take?

Write

  • Respond to all of the sponsor's instructions
  • Tell a compelling story: What difference will your project make to your students, your field; the state, country, and world; etc.? Why should you, rather than someone else, do this project?
