Fund for the Advancement of the Discipline- FAD ($8,000)
- Deadlines: June 15 and December 15
- Nurtures the development of scientific knowledge by funding small, groundbreaking
research initiatives and other important scientific research activities such as conferences
- Provides scholars with "seed money" for innovative research that has the potential
for challenging the discipline, stimulating new lines of research, and creating new
networks of scientific collaboration
- Provides opportunities for substantive and methodological breakthroughs, broaden the
dissemination of scientific knowledge, and provide leverage for acquisition of additional
research funds
- Award money may not be used for ASA convention expenses, honoraria, or PI's salary,
which includes buying out of courses. The most frequent use of FAD money is to fund
research assistants.

- Project Grants ($3,000—$10,000)
- Funds scholarly projects in Byzantine Studies, Pre-Columbian Studies, and Garden and
Landscape Studies
- Support is generally for archeological investigation, as well as for the recovery,
recording, and analysis of materials that would otherwise be lost
- Eligible projects may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- non-destructive investigation, excavation, and/or on-site study of a (Byzantine, Pre-Columbian,
Garden) site or component of one
- surveying or photographing monuments and objects that are at risk (e.g., architecture,
gardens, paintings, mosaics, and sculptures in situ), as well as objects that have
already been collected but are largely unrecorded and endangered

Wenner-Gren Foundation
- Post-Ph.D. Research Grants ($20,000) are awarded to individuals holding a Ph.D. or
equivalent degree to support individual research projects. Applicants must be engaged
in research that contributes to anthropological knowledge. Applicants of any nationality
or country of residence may apply.
- Engaged Anthropology Grant ($5,000) is designed to enable grantees to return to their
research locale to share their research results. Only individuals who have received
and completed a Dissertation Fieldwork Grant or a Post-Ph.D. Research Grant are eligible
to apply for this grant.
- Fejos Postdoctoral Fellowship in Ethnographic Film ($40,000) towards the completion
of an ethnographic film that is based on anthropological research already accomplished
by the applicant. The fellowship is awarded to scholars who are within ten years of
the receipt of their Ph.D. and supports them early in their career when they frequently
lack the time and resources for film production.
- Hunt Postdoctoral Fellowships ($40,000) funds the writing-up of already completed
research. The fellowship is awarded to scholars who are within ten years of the receipt
of their Ph.D. and supports them early in their career when they frequently lack the
time and resources to publish.
- Conference and Workshop Grants ($20,000) are given to events that foster the creation
of an international community of research scholars in anthropology and advance significant
and innovative anthropological research.
