The Master of Arts in Teaching One-Year Option (MAT5)

This full-time MAT program allows students to earn a Master's degree and teaching certification in one year (three semesters: summer, fall, and spring). The one-year option is designed exclusively for recent graduates with a bachelor's degree in the fields of art, biology, chemistry, dance, English, French, math, social studies, Spanish, and theatre.

Application Deadline: February 15 for summer admission. This program only admits students one time per year, in the summer.

Financial Assistance

Scholarships and Graduate Assistantships are available to fully-admitted graduate students.  In addition, a special grant-funded scholarship and stipend program is available to those pursuing Math or Biology teacher certification. The WISE program (Winthrop Initiative for STEM Educators) will provide $10,000 scholarships and stipends to eligible MAT students who agree to teach in high-need schools upon graduation.
