Greetings!
As Winthrop's president, I am very pleased to be a part of the Eagle Family Connection
and have the chance to reach out to parents, family members, and others who support
our outstanding students. My wife, Laura, our children and I are so thankful to be
a part of the Winthrop family.
As I start my second year at Winthrop, I continue to be impressed by the dedication
of every faculty and staff member to our students' success. We have developed a first
year experience at Winthrop designed to help our students adjust to the exciting and
challenging world of higher education. As they proceed on their journey of personal
discovery they will find that, along with excellent academic preparation, Winthrop
is helping them develop as leaders and engaged citizens.
We provide our students with many opportunities to get involved in activities on campus
and encourage them to actively participate in public service. This 360-degree educational
experience prepares Winthrop graduates to assume prominent positions in their fields
of choice and become leaders in their communities. I am confident that your student
will be transformed by all this exceptional university offers.
As your student progresses through the Winthrop experience, please know that there
are ways to share any concerns that you may have as a parent or family member. The
Office of New Student and Family Programs is a great place to start. E-mail or call
our staff at familyprograms@winthrop.edu or 803/323-2387. You may also send questions and suggestions to my staff through
our online form or e-mail me at president@winthrop.edu.
And I hope you will all join us on campus for Family Day, October 1, 2016. Registration is underway through September 16. I look forward to seeing as many parents and families as possible during this day
of activities that everyone is sure to enjoy. Go Eagles!
Sincerely,
Daniel F. Mahony
President

We are very excited in the Office of Student Engagement & Diversity to welcome students back for another year at Winthrop. Our office has the opportunity of providing our students with numerous opportunities to build friendships, develop leadership potential and have lasting contributions in our community. By getting involved in one of our 160+ registered student organizations, we believe and have found that our students make connections, make a difference and make Winthrop their home.
Part of the college student experience is having the ability to get involved in what
truly matters to you. The Fall Involvement Fair, which will be held on Thursday, September 8 on the Campus Green, is an excellent chance for our students to meet our hundreds
of student organizations and find opportunities to become engaged. We know that students
who get involved tend to make lasting connections with one another and the university,
leading them to have a more positive college experience.
Another benefit of our student organizations is the chance for students to continue
learning outside of the classroom. Students have said that by getting involved their
ability to solve problems and think critically has improved. Through joining a student
organization, our students are exposed to different people and ideas that enhance
their educational experience.
We encourage our students and family members to visit the Student Organizations website, where they can find a listing, contact information and description of all of our
organizations. While not all of our organizations will interest a particular student,
we encourage everyone to pick one or two that look interesting so they can get involved.
Also, if a student can't find an organization that appeals to their interests, we
encourage them to start their own. In 2015-2016 alone, we had 14 new student organizations,
everything from service groups to multicultural groups, to club sports! For more information
on getting an organization started, students can visit our website.
If you have any questions, the Office of Student Engagement & Diversity is always
here to assist you or your student. Please feel free to e-mail us or call 803/323-2248.
We are pleased to announce that the Parent Portal is now available for use. This allows
Winthrop students the ability to grant access to their information to parents, guardians
or another third party. Depending upon the level of access granted, authorized users
may view addresses, grades, unofficial transcripts, class schedules, financial aid
and emergency contacts.
Only the student can grant access, and he or she can remove the access at any time.
This does NOT take the place of your signed Permission to Release Records form. That form is still needed to allow parents/guardians to talk with instructors
or to obtain copies of academic records.
For more information and instructions on how to set up a proxy, visit this website. There is also a quick-link to this page through the Office of Records and Registration website.
Winthrop University Dining Services would like to extend a warm South Carolina welcome
to all new Winthrop Eagles! Dining Services is about providing a venue where the student
body comes together for socializing, being healthy, learning and eating great food!
Whether you are a new or returning student, parent or guest we are anxious to provide
you with an exceptional dining experience!
Meal Plans are available for everyone. Commuter Meal Plans offer a lower buy-in amount,
with fewer meals and more Cafe Cash. To purchase, log on to your student's Winthrop Wingspan account — this will be charged back to your student's account.
Café Cash is a declining balance account on your student's ID card, same concept as
a bank debit card. Once students add Café Cash to their account, they can make purchases
at any of the Dining Services locations by presenting their ID card to the cashier
at the time of purchase. Café Cash can be used at all dining locations on campus,
as well as Eagle Express - our convenience store located in Thomson Hall. Café Cash
can be reloaded at any time during the semester. Be sure to lookout for our monthly
Café Cash reload promotions to make sure that your student never runs low!
We have lots of new and exciting things happening on campus, including all NEW meals
plans that provide the flexibility that students want in a dining plan! We strive
to stay connected with our students to make sure they don't miss out on any of it!
Please visit our website, follow us on Twitter and Instagram @winthropdining and download our recently updated
CampusDish iPhone and Android App to learn more about the services we offer. We are
excited to have you join the Winthrop Family! Hope to see you dining on campus sometime
soon.
For your lodging needs, please contact the Inn at Winthrop located in the heart of
campus in Joynes Hall. The Inn at Winthrop features 12 elegantly-appointed suites
and is certified by the South Carolina Green Hospitality Alliance as a Two Palmetto
facility for green practices that protect and preserve the environment. Please visit
the Inn to reserve your room. All rooms are queen suites and are $78.84 (includes
taxes) per night.
