January 2018

Hello Parents and Family Members!

As we continue our journey together throughout the 2017-2018 school year, we are excited to provide you with information that will assist your student moving forward. Residence Life has provided essential information in regards to housing for the upcoming fall semester. In addition, DSU's article is an outlook for the semester with multifarious events and student activities opened to families and friends. DSU welcomes having you on campus to enjoy these events with your student.

We are looking forward to another great semester with many exciting events and activities! Encourage your student to take advantage of all the opportunities Winthrop has to offer and to bookmark the University Events Calendar. This is a great way to keep up with university events, and it lists approved cultural events as well, which your student needs to attend to graduate.

Please encourage your student to start the spring semester on the right foot by going to class and keeping up with assignments. The Academic Success Center is a great resource for classes your student is struggling in.

As always, the Office of New Student and Family Programs is here to keep you connected and informed. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.

Residence Life

It's time to start thinking about Fall 2018 Housing!

Rising sophomores are required to live on-campus for four semesters, during both the freshman and sophomore years. Rising sophomores can choose their own room during our online sign-up process that will kick off around February 1st:

  • Phase One: students will fill out the application for Fall 2018 - Spring 2019.

  • Phase Two: students will go online to pick their own room. Please talk over the choices your student has and the game plan they are going to use. Our most popular buildings go fast!  (There is an option to reclaim their current room.)

Students interested in living in Courtyard or Roddey may apply by January 31st. Both have separate applications that your students can pick up in the Office of Residence Life (DIGS 237). Courtyard is the only application that carries a $25 application fee. Both applications will be ranked according to their application date, and preference is given to juniors and seniors.

We have both Suite-fill-all and General Room selection, giving everyone an equal opportunity in any hall. We hold rooms to be released for every stage of room selection for sophomores and juniors/seniors.

DSU

Greetings and Happy New Year! We hope that your holiday season was restful and enjoyable.

As we jump back into the Spring semester, DSU is ready to provide an array of different events, programs and activities to keep students engaged and involved. This semester we are hosting some incredible events such as "Grocery Bingo", Build-a-Plush, Mardi Gras bash, WUchella and the DiGiorgio Campus Center takeover. These are just a sample of the events that we are providing to give students a variety of options.

We also are showing several movies as part of our EagleFlicks movie series. These films include "Star Wars: The Last Jedi", "Jumanji" and "Coco" to name a few. We encourage students and families to attend and participate in as many events as possible.

We would love to have you. DSU events are $5 for students, $7 for public and FREE with a DSU All-Access pass. Passes are $10 and can be purchased in DIGS 212 or online via our U-store. Visit DSU for details!
