My name is Alexander Middleton, and I am currently a senior mathematics major here
at Winthrop University. I am from Greenville, S.C., and I have been very happy to
make Winthrop and Rock Hill my home. I graduated from high school in 2013 with Honors
and Distinction in Mathematics. In the Fall of 2013, I began at Winthrop as a mathematics
major, and I have immersed myself within all aspects of the major. Currently I am
the President of Winthrop's Mathematics Club, as well as a member of Kappa Mu Epsilon,
the National Mathematics Honor Society. Since Spring 2014, I have been involved in
research with the Mathematics department. My current work focuses on Mathematical
Biology, specifically the modelling of cancer tumor growth. I received the Anderson
Award for Undergraduate Research in Mathematical and Computational Biology in Summer
2014 from the Mathematical Association of America. After graduation, I plan to attend
graduate school in the fields of Applied Mathematics, Mathematical Biology, or Operations
Research.
