The Major

The Department of Theatre and Dance offers a B.A. in Theatre with special emphases in Performance, Design/Technical Theatre, Musical Theatre, or Teacher Certification (K-12).

All majors begin their studies by completing a core curriculum of theatre courses that exposes them to the broad range of theatre crafts and studies.  This core curriculum includes courses in performance (acting and directing), production (design and technical skills) and theory (script analysis, dramatic literature and theatre history).

  • Theatre Performance students continue with focused course work in voice, acting and movement/dance, and they select a minor to complement their theatre studies.
  • Musical Theatre students continue with focused course work in acting and pursue advanced courses in musical theatre, including voice and dance, and they select a minor to complement their theatre studies.
  • Design/Technical students pursue advanced courses in design (costume, lighting, scenic) and stagecraft, and they select a minor to complement their theatre studies.
  • Theatre Education students — pursuing the focused, professional degree program in teacher education — take advanced courses in pedagogy, acting, directing and theatre production.
