Julia McCallum is an instructor of music education at Winthrop University, where she teaches courses in elementary music, supervises elementary music student teachers, and teaches in the visual and performing arts course for early childhood and elementary education majors.

Ms. McCallum was the music specialist at Belleview Elementary School in Rock Hill, South Carolina for many years. She was an adjunct instructor of music education and graduate teaching fellow at the University of Oregon, where she worked with the Oregon Marching Band and taught courses in elementary music methods, music in early childhood, classroom management, and music in special education; she was also the elementary music specialist at Ridgeline Montessori Public Charter School in Eugene.

She earned National Board Certification in Early and Middle Childhood Music from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards in 2007 and completed Level I and Level II Orff-Schulwerk courses. Ms. McCallum has worked extensively with pre-service and beginning teachers, serving as a new teacher mentor, peer evaluator, and as scoring staff for NBPTS and edTPA.

Ms. McCallum's work has appeared in Oregon Music Educator and Nebraska Music Educator, as well as at regional and state conferences in South Carolina and the Pacific Northwest. She holds the B.M.E. and M.M.E. degrees from Winthrop University, and is continuing her studies toward the Ph.D. in Music Education at the University of Oregon.
