Kinsey holds a D.M.A. in choral conducting from the University of South Carolina and an M.M.Ed. from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. The majority of her teaching career has been in the public school system in Charlotte, N.C., where she was a choral music educator for 15 years. Kinsey serves as the Director of Choral Activities in the Dept. of Music and oversees the Masters of Music in Choral Conducting degree program. Her teaching responsibilities include instruction in applied graduate and undergraduate conducting, and she also instructs secondary choral music education classes. She also supervises interns who wish to become choral directors in middle and high school. In addition, she conducts the Winthrop Chorale, a large concert choir, and the Winthrop Chamber Singers, an a cappella ensemble comprised of 24 voices focusing on motets, madrigals and part songs from all musical periods.

She resides in Charlotte, NC, and her professional affiliations include the American Choral Directors Association, the National Association for Music Educators, and the National Collegiate Choral Organization. She has held the state offices of President, Vice President, Collegiate Chair, and Membership Chair for the SC ACDA, and in May of 2012 was appointed as the Music Director and Conductor of the York County Choral Society. She regularly adjudicates choral festivals and enjoys doing workshops on choral conducting technique and musical interpretation.
