It is the mission of the Winthrop Academy of Music to offer a quality music curriculum to children and youth in our area, to maintain an outstanding faculty of music instructors, and to provide a laboratory and teaching experience for Winthrop students who teach and assist in the program.

The Academy has a strong faculty of professional artists/teachers, graduate students, and undergraduate music majors pursuing degrees at the university. All Academy faculty and graduate students hold degrees in their teaching field and have previous teaching experience. Undergraduate student instructors are majors in the field in which they teach. They are carefully chosen to teach in the Academy program and are approved and supervised by administration and faculty.

Regular attendance to all private lessons is expected of Academy students. Students are required to come prepared for each lesson. If unprepared the lesson cannot be made up. If it becomes necessary for a student to miss a private lesson, the instructor must be notified at least 24 hours in advance. Lessons missed by the student will be made up only if the instructor is able to arrange the time. Private lessons missed by the instructor will be made up.

Fees listed in the brochure are for the Fall 2015 semester. Full tuition or the first installment of the fee is due upon registration. The remaining fee is to be paid in three monthly installments due on the 20th of each succeeding month (Sept. 20, Oct. 20, Nov. 20). New Students will pay a one-time $25 registration fee. Overdue monthly installments will result in cancellation of instruction.

Students registered for lessons canceled by the Academy receive full refunds. No refund will be issued after the first 3 weeks of lessons. Payment is still required for the full semester if lessons are canceled by the student after the first 3 weeks.
