About Visual Communication Design

Winthrop University's Visual Communication Design (VCD) program imparts rigorous professional preparation over a comprehensive four-year bachelor degree in illustration, graphic, and interactive media. The VCD faculty, facilities, and technology support students' research, analysis, and design necessary for their end products to meet audience needs and intended contexts for print, screen, or built environments. We empower students to become directors of visual communication, who think conceptually, with an emphasis on systematic and strategic approaches to design.

Study in the VCD program offers the choice of two concentrations:

Study Abroad in Visual Communication Design

Due to the prescriptive nature of the VCOM curriculum, the Department Chair and Design Faculty have identified any of the first three semesters of the student's academic experience as the best time for students to take part in a study abroad experience (in addition to multiple summer study options). Through discussion with their academic adviser and careful planning of the student's study abroad plan, students are able to study abroad with minimal disruption to their degree plan and graduation schedule.  Please contact the Department Chair directly for further information.
