Winthrop University: College of Education - LiveText

College of Education

The Educator Preparation Program utilizes LiveText for managing candidate information. Specifically, the Field Experience Module (FEM), houses information related to candidate placements and performance in field settings.

When teaching a field-based course, faculty should submit a "Field Placement and Assessment Request Form" at least 30 days prior to the first desired field day for candidates (under "Forms" at /coe/rex/handbooks-and-forms.aspx). This form signals the Field and Clinical Experiences office that either support is needed for making appropriate placements and/or a course needs adding to the FEM. Each instructor should submit a form even if there are multiple sections to ensure accuracy of dates in the FEM.

Instructor Responsibilities

Field experiences are part of the course, thus the ultimate responsibility of the instructor. At minimum, instructors of a field-based course should know how to access placement information in the FEM and, at minimum:

  • Communicate with host teachers regarding field expectations for candidates and host teachers
  • "Check-in" at least two times prior to final evaluation; and
  • Address challenges with candidate skill and/or disposition, as needed.
  • Integrate field performance into course content and evaluation.

A LiveText User's Guide is available under "Handbooks and Guides" at /coe/rex/handbooks-and-forms.aspx. After an instructor attempts to seek answers and address challenges by referring to the user guide or technical support (, help with LiveText FEM may be available by calling the Rex Institute at 803/323-4734.
