Handshake is our online job platform for Winthrop students, alumni, and employers.
Handshake is the #1 way college students find jobs and internships. The platform connects
up-and-coming professionals with 750,000+ employers - from Fortune 500 companies to
thousands of public school districts, healthcare systems, and nonprofits.
Log in to Handshake using your Winthrop student email or alumni email address.
Make sure that your profile is 100% complete (go to Settings > My Profile). Include your education, work experience, skills, etc. This will help tailor your job search and make it easier for recruiters to find you.
Upload your resume/cover letter so that it's available whenever you need it (go to Settings > My Documents). Whenever you upload a new document, the CDI team will review it for you. This is an easy way to receive feedback on your resume.
Thousands of jobs and internships are posted on Handshake each year. Search for ones that align with your career interests and goals. You can apply in just two clicks using the Quick Apply feature. After applying, you will also receive updates on the status of your application.
Register for Winthrop's career fairs, employer information sessions, and more! This is a great way to connect with employers and learn more about opportunities within their organizations.
Schedule 1:1 appointments with the career center for help with your resume/cover letter, job search, interview preparation, and more (go to Career Center > Appointments).
Log in to Handshake or create an employer account (use your company email address if you have one).
After verifying your email address, you will be prompted to search for your company on Handshake and request to join.
If your company is not listed, you will have the option to create a new company profile. If the company email domain is already being used or you would like to create a secondary company for your specific location (ex: Enterprise - Rock Hill, SC), please email us at careerdev@winthrop.edu for assistance. Currently, multiple companies cannot be registered under the same company email domain.
Troubleshooting Tips:
You must request to connect with schools before posting jobs and internships there. We recommend starting with only 10-20 schools until your company is established on Handshake. For more information, see School Network Management.

Once an account is activated, students are given the option to make their profile public or private through their account settings. For students who select the public option, recruiters will have access to information displayed on their profile, including their personal data and work preferences. Since Handshake is a third-party platform, if the public option is selected, Winthrop University cannot provide protections under FERPA.
