Senior Economist with Wells Fargo, Mark Vitner, Delivers Comments About the Current Economic Climate of the Nation and South Carolina

Mark Vitner, Senior Economist with Wells Fargo Securities, indicated during his presentation at the annual Economic Forecast Breakfast co-hosted with Winthrop and Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., that the economy is and will continue to gradually gain momentum.

Mr. Vitner spoke to a crowd of about 150 local business leaders, government leaders, and the general public on the current state of the economy on a national level as well as on the state level for South Carolina.

He indicated that that the housing recovery is steadily taking hold and housing trends in construction are beginning to rise. Specifically in South Carolina where the housing crisis was particularly strong, the housing industry is gradually on the rise. He also indicated that the S.C. labor market may be slower to recover but noted that some of the strongest job growth for the Charlotte Metro Area has been in South Carolina with Charleston leading the way in employment recovery.

Additional information on the trends and predictions in the slow growing economy is available via download of Mark Vitner's complete presentation.
