Resume Workshop

Description: The Resume Workshop will provide a refresher for students on how to create an appropriate resume and allow students to get their resumes reviewed. Cara Peters is to give a 15 min. presentation on resume formatting, including examples of resumes and a checklist of what needs to be included on the resume. The Beta Alpha Psi officers, Dr. Richards, and additional faculty will then be available to provide one-on-one feedback on students' resumes. This event will help students prepare to apply for job opportunities they learn about at Meet the Firms (see below).

Life as a Big-4 Auditor

Description: Morgan Brown is a Winthrop alumnus who will be presenting about his experience as an auditor for a Big 4 CPA firm. This includes the importance of diversity, what Big 4 firms look for in job candidates, and how auditing has evolved overtime.

Presenter: Morgan Brown is an Assurance Senior Manager at EY’s DC office. He graduated from Winthrop in 2013 with a concentration in Corporate Finance. After Winthrop, he went to UNC Chapel Hill to get a Master of Accounting.

Meet the Firms

Description: Meet the Firms is a networking event hosted by Beta Alpha Psi. Approximately 30 employers and professional organizations will be available to discuss job opportunities, services, and organizations that would interest accounting, finance, and information systems students. All CBA students will be invited to attend.

This networking event will allow students to prepare themselves for the job market. Students will need to step out of their comfort zone to talk to the visiting professionals. Students will be required to dress professionally and will be urged to have a resume available. Students will learn about the different local job opportunities that are available for accounting, finance, and information systems students.

Description: A presentation by Olivia Willis, Manager at Founder's Federal Credit Union. Olivia will discuss Credit Scores, Credit Ratings, Credit Reports - why they are important, what should be done to maximize the score, what myths exist about credit scores.

Presenter: Olivia Willis is the manager of the Newport Branch of Founder's Federal Credit Union.
