Licensed BSW & MSW professionals will share their insights of the licensure process, supervision, and best practices for South Carolina & North Carolina. Refreshments will be served. Hosted by the BSW Club & MSW Student Association

Courtney Leak, LCSW, LISW-CP: Courtney Leak, is a dynamic therapist, podcaster, and empowerment speaker who utilizes direct honesty wrapped in humor in order to spread the message of living a life full of purpose and courage. Courtney received her Masters of Social Work from Winthrop University and has over 10 years in the field of therapy and human services.

Judith Myers, LBSW: Judith Myers is a 2012 BSW graduate. In 2016, she earned her Masters of Divinity from Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond. Judith currently serves as Pastor with Emmanuel Baptist Fellowship in Lexington, SC. She’s also the Volunteer Coordinator/Chaplain/LBSW for Lighthouse Hospice Group in Irmo, SC. She received her licensure in August 2017.

Jessica Yang, PhD, LISW-CP: Dr. Yang is an Assistant Professor in the Social Work Department at Winthrop University. She earned both her BSW and her MSW at Appalachian State before moving on to the University of Denver where she earned her doctorate. Dr. Yang is a passionate social worker, teacher, and researcher who has devoted her career to improving outcomes for marginalized youth with a specific passion for those served by the foster care system.

Social Media Campaign

 Submit a 1-minute video or a 3-5 sentence quote answering the question, “How do you elevate social work?” Visit Bancroft 136-A to record a video. Email your quote and photo or video to winthropsocialwork@gmail.com

Service Projects

The BSW Club will pack Brown Bag Lunches for residents at the ROC (Renewing Our Community) in Rock Hill.

The MSW Student Association is collecting new socks and/or underwear for the Salvation Army. A donation box is in Bancroft 132 or deliver to your nearest Salvation Army.

Research And Practice (RAP) Sessions

 Join us for the Spring 2019 RAP sessions. These sessions provide a stimulating environment for you to learn about, and support, faculty and student research. The research topics are exciting and draw attention to critical social issues. For more information, please contact Monique Constance-Huggins, Ph.D.

Study Abroad in St. Vincent

Dr. Monique Constance-Huggins will be leading an experiential learning Study Abroad for Social Work students in St. Vincent and the Grenadines during Summer 2019. St.Vincent is a beautiful English-speaking Caribbean island in the Southern Caribbean. During the trip you will have the opportunity to interact with Vincentians, learn about their culture, interact with Government officials, and learn about social work empowerment strategies with vulnerable populations in a developing country.
