Minor in Legal Studies

The Minor

The Legal Studies minor considers problems and perspectives that reach across most academic disciplines and practical fields. Law, broadly conceived, is a social institution through which students may examine a variety of themes central to society; and the rule of law touches every aspect of our lives. Thus, legal awareness is an important part of our school, personal, and professional work lives.

Our program helps build awareness of law and the justice system while developing the key skills required for understanding and operating within a society governed by the rule of law. These include problem-solving, logical reasoning, analytic reading and writing, speaking and listening skills, and promoting justice in all walks of life. The multidisciplinary legal studies minor is not a prelaw preparatory program or paralegal training. Its goal is to cross disciplines so that students can understand how their field of study can illuminate the principles, practices, and policies of the law, and vice versa.
