She has taught courses in General Psychology (Honors), Experimental Psychology, Statistics, Senior Seminar, Cognitive Psychology, Human Experience: Who Am I?, Honors Thesis, and Honors Thesis Symposium. In 1990, she was appointed as the Director of the Clustered Learning Units for Educational Success (C.L.U.E.S) program which later developed into the Freshman Honors Program. In 1997 the Freshman Honors Program and the upperclassmen Honors Program were combined, and she became the Director of the Winthrop University Honors Program. Since that time, she has focused her research interests to Honors Program administration and is an active member in the Southern Regional Honors Council, serving as its president in 2008, and the National Collegiate Honors Council, serving on its Board of Directors from 2008-10. She also currently serves on two committees for NCHC, the Honors Semesters Committee since 1998 and the Portz Fellowship Committee since 2008.

Dr. Lyon has facilitated NCHC Faculty Development Institutes for the Honors Semesters Committee, the last of which was located in Chicago July 28 through August 1, 2010. She has presented research on numerous occasions at the National Collegiate Honors Council conferences since 1997, served as an Honors Administrative Consultant at the conferences and facilitated City as Text and Idea Exchange sessions for those conferences over the years. She has published an article in Shatter the Glassy Stare: Implementing Experiential Learning in Higher Education, a publication of the National Collegiate Honors Council, and co-edited Chicago: Community (Re)Organizing, a publication of the Honors Semesters Committee of NCHC. Dr. Lyon also actively engages students in the SRHC and NCHC by providing assistance for their research presentations at the conferences of both councils and serves as the faculty advisor to the Winthrop University Honors Association (WUHA!), the student organization of the Honors Program.

She is married to Robert J. Walden, former Chair of the Department of Art and Design at Winthrop University.
