Dr. Aysa-Lastra is an Associate Professor of Sociology at
Winthrop. She received her doctorate in demography from University of
Pennsylvania. Her research interests focus on comparative international
migration, immigrant integration, labor stratification, and social
vulnerability. Her last edited volume, Immigrant Vulnerability and Resilience,
focuses on Latino immigrant populations during the Great Recession in the
United States and Spain. She is currently working on the economic and social
integration of internally displaced populations in Colombia. She has published
in refereed journals such as Rural Sociology, Journal of Refugee Studies,
Journal of Family Violence, International Journal of Population Research and
Bulletin of Latin American Research, Revista Española de Investigaciones
Sociológicas, Norteamérica, Revista Internacional de Sociología, among
others; and book chapters in academic presses in the United States, Colombia,
Spain and Mexico. She regularly teaches Quantitative Research Methods, Urban
Sociology, Sociology of Peace and Conflict Resolution, Principles of Sociology,
Population and Society, Global Migration and Immigration Policy, and offers
Undergraduate Research opportunities.
