Faculty Awards

  • College-Level Awards (Information Coming by 2/1/2018)
    • College of Arts & Sciences Outstanding Adjunct Award is awarded to an adjunct faculty member of the college who has demonstrated excellent teaching, utilizing effective and engaging student learning assignments, activities, experiences and demonstrated interest/engagement in his/her department. Nominations should be made by the CAS department chairperson, direct supervisor, or other (as appropriately designated by CAS department chairperson). Deadline: March 31, 2018. To nominate someone for this award, contact Kat Wilson by March 30, 2018.
      •   Award criteria: 
        • Majority of adjunct courses taught in CAS
        • Eligible in 3rd year of adjunct employment; must have two (2) annual (academic years) reviews completed
        • One (1) nominee per department
        • Once award is won; recipient cannot win again
        • Former F/T tenure-track faculty are not eligible for this award
        • Demonstrated excellent teaching, utilizing effective and engaging student learning assignments, activities, experiences
        • Demonstrated interest/engagement in department    
    • College of Arts & Sciences Outstanding Undergraduate Research Mentor Award is awarded to a faculty member who has demonstrated exemplary research mentoring during the past year. All nominations are student-initiated. Deadline: March 31, 2018.
    • College of Arts & Sciences Scholarship Excellence Award is awarded to a faculty member of the college who demonstrates exceptional research or creative work. Candidates for the award may be nominated by any member of the Winthrop University faculty, including the candidate him/herself.  Deadline: March 31, 2018. To nominate yourself or someone else for this award, contact Kat Wilson by March 30, 2018.
    • The Ellison Capers Palmer Jr. Professorship was established by an estate gift from Ellison Capers Palmer, Jr., in memory of his mother, Keith Wells '20, and her sisters, Dovie '16, Lucile and Virginia Wells. The Palmer Professorship honors a History faculty member for his or her superior skill in teaching, scholarship, high standing among professional colleagues, and general service to the university community. This award recognizes excellence both on campus and within the academic community and provides support for the faculty member’s teaching and research.
    • Lynn Harand Outstanding Advisor Award is awarded to a faculty member who has demonstrated exemplary advising skills during the past year. All nominations are student-initiated. Deadline: March 31, 2018.
    • Margaret M. Bryant Professor for the English Department
  • University-Level Awards (Distinguished Professor, Outstanding Junior Professor, Jane LeRoche Graduate Faculty Award, James Pinckney Kinard and Lee Wicker Kinard Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the Faculty/Student Life Award)
  • The Robert and Norma Thompson Scholar award provides financial support for faculty development that increases student engagement and learning. The program provides reassigned time for two classes per year for a faculty member "to work on projects that strengthen the academic, intellectual, and co-curricular life of the university". Full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty members with at least three years of experience at Winthrop are eligible to apply
