The Davis Endowment was established in May of 1998 in honor of Dr. Luckett V. Davis by the faculty, families, and friends of the Biology Department to support undergraduate and graduate research and travel.

The Biology Department is pleased to announce a new initiative to encourage undergraduate students to undertake independent research projects. Thanks to the generous donation of Dr. Richard Houk, Emeritus Professor of Biology, Beta Beta Beta will award a cash prize each semester to the student who presents the best research poster at the department’s poster symposium. This award will be called the Houk Prize and will be given in both the fall and spring semesters. The competition is open to any undergraduate Biology Major who completes a biology based research project at Winthrop beyond that done in BIOL 300.
