Pre-University Arts Program

The Pre-University Summer Arts Program has regretfully been cancelled for the summer of 2020. We hope to welcome you all to campus in 2021!
Earn three university credits and gain valuable experience in dance, theatre, music, design and studio arts, training with professional college faculty members, this summer at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The program is a week-long interdisciplinary arts experience that offers the chance to explore multiple art forms.

Courses will be taught by Winthrop University professors, who are all professional practicing artists and designers, giving you a true college classroom and studio experience.

During the week-long program, you will be enrolled in Arts Lab, working creatively and collaboratively with other students across the disciplines in the production and performance of interdisciplinary arts events.

Application Process & Requirements

Applicants should currently be enrolled in 10th, 11th or 12th grade in high school (who will be rising juniors, seniors, or graduates in the summer of 2020). A complete Pre-University application form and a 250-word personal essay about your reasons for wanting to attend are required. A letter of recommendation from a teacher or guidance counselor is recommended, but not required for admission. We do not require a portfolio or audition for attending Pre-University.

Note: all attendees will be required to provide proof of their own medical coverage.

Important Dates

New users must create an account. Existing users should login to their Winthrop portal. If you have questions about the application, please contact the Office of Admissions: admissions@winthrop.edu or 803/323-2191.

Cost of Attendance

Cost of attendance is $1,800 per student and includes college credit transferrable to most colleges and universities. This program is designed as a "day camp" experience, however students who are interested may stay overnight on campus for an additional $400, which includes housing and meals.

Living On Campus Experience
Living away from home and experiencing the independence and responsibility of college life is an exhilarating time. Winthrop cares about all aspects of your well-being. You'll be living in an air-conditioned residence hall with other Pre-University students in rooms separated by gender. Current Winthrop students will be on campus with you as resident assistants and mentors to provide help and encouragement. Eat well in the Thomson Dining Hall. Meals will consist of breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There are vegetarian and gluten-free options, and special dietary accommodations are made upon request. Coffee, snacks, and personal items are available for purchase at the DiGiorgio Campus Center. Want to work out? Swim? Run? You'll have access to our recreation center during your time here.
