Alumni and Friends,

We are excited to launch the Columbia Alumni Chapter in August! Details are below on the launch event - we look forward to seeing alumni in Columbia soon. Lori Tuttle, Executive Director of Alumni Relations and Annual GivingCharleston, S.C., your Winthrop alumni chapter is on deck so stay tuned for more details! The fourth annual Winthrop Day at Carowinds will be on Saturday, Aug. 25, which is the Saturday of Welcome Week. Carowinds has given Winthrop a deeply discounted ticket price that includes parking. The alumni association will be at the front gate from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. to welcome alumni, students and friends, and we’ll have alumni swag to give away. Come see us!

Nominate Alumni for an Alumni Award
Each November, the Winthrop Alumni Association presents awards at the Alumni Reunion & Awards Luncheon, held during Homecoming & Reunion Weekend, to alumni who have demonstrated Winthrop's tradition of excellence. Nominations for the 2018 Alumni Awards will be accepted through Friday, Aug. 31. The Honors and Awards Committee of the Alumni Executive Board reviews nominations and selects winners annually. To nominate a Winthrop graduate for an alumni award, complete the Alumni Awards Nomination Form and submit to Lori Tuttle, executive director of alumni relations, at
The following three awards are nominated by alumni:

  • Alumni Distinguished Service Award – Recognizes a Winthrop alumna/us who significantly contributes to the quality of life within his/her community as well as the development of overall values and morals within others and serves as an outstanding citizen in his/her own right. Distinguished service may have been rendered with one's profession, church, charity, family and school on a national, state or local level. The recipient shall be a dedicated alumna/us who supports the growth and development of Winthrop through his/her service to and/or support of programs and objectives established by the university.
  • Alumni Professional Achievement Award – Presented to an alumna/us who has made significant contributions to his/her professional field while exemplifying high moral and business ethics. Nomination form should indicate the nominee's involvement in and advancement of his/her chosen profession or field. The recipient shall be a dedicated alumna/us who supports the growth and development of Winthrop and exemplifies an outstanding code of ethics as well as the overall quality concept by which the university is governed.
  • Outstanding Young Alumni Award – Winthrop Young Alumni are Graduates of the Last Decade (G.O.L.D.), age 32 or younger, whose service to the university, service to the community and professional achievements have reflected positively on all alumni and the university.

Columbia Alumni Chapter Launch

The Winthrop Columbia Alumni Chapter invites you to join us at our first event as we launch the alumni chapter! The event will be on Thursday, Aug. 9, from 6-8 p.m. at Hickory Tavern located at 907 Senate Street in Columbia, S.C. Meet local Winthrop alumni and share your garnet and gold pride. Washington D.C. Metro Alumni Social

Join the D.C. Metro Alumni Chapter and fellow Winthrop alumni for networking and great city views at Hawthorne Rooftop + Tavern on Thursday, Aug. 9, from 6-8 p.m. Hawthorne Rooftop + Tavern’s full menu and bar will be available. Please RSVP to by Monday, Aug. 6.

Upstate Alumni Chapter Luncheon

The Upstate Alumni Chapter invites you and your guests to join us at a summer luncheon on Saturday, Aug. 25 at 11 a.m. at Brick Street Cafe. The cost is $20 per person. Please see the Alumni Association website for menu details. The luncheon includes a lunch entree, beverage and dessert. A cash bar is available. Please RSVP with your lunch entree option by Aug. 20. 

Winthrop Day at Carowinds

Join the Winthrop Alumni Association and fellow Winthrop alumni for the fourth annual Winthrop Day at Carowinds on Saturday, Aug. 25, beginning at 10 a.m. Wear your Winthrop gear and enjoy the Carowinds experience at a deeply discounted price of $39, with $1 from each ticket sale benefitting Winthrop scholarships. Purchase your tickets online. Username is Winthrop. Password is Eagles. Please note these are case sensitive. The discounted ticket price is only valid for Aug. 25. 3rd Annual Winthrop Golf Day

The third annual Winthrop Golf Day will be held on Friday, Sept. 21 at River Hills Country Club in Lake Wylie. This year, the Winthrop men’s and women’s golf teams are joining forces for a fun-filled day on the course. All proceeds from the golf tournament will support Winthrop golf student-athletes. The day begins at 11:30 a.m. with lunch provided by Chick-Fil-A and a silent auction at the clubhouse followed by a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Teams will be playing Captain’s Choice, and this year, each team will be paired up with a current Winthrop golf student-athlete! After 18 holes, everyone will meet back at the clubhouse for the conclusion of the silent auction and the trophy presentation. Registration for your team, company or yourself will be open soon here!

Triangle Alumni Chapter – Black Panther Movie Party

Save the date for the Black Panther Movie Party on Friday, Sept. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the North Carolina Museum of Art. More details to come, purchase tickets here.

Save the Date: Homecoming & Reunion Weekend 2018

Mark your calendar for Homecoming & Reunion Weekend 2018, Friday, Nov. 16–Saturday, Nov. 17. From the uniform-wearing Winthrop daughters to the more recent graduates of today’s multicultural, multi-generational student body, Winthrop alumni share a unique bond. Homecoming & Reunion Weekend is one time each year that everyone comes back to campus to remember and relive those fun-filled and life-changing college days. Class reunions, campus tours, alumni awards, tailgating and basketball – all these activities and more make for an unforgettable gathering.
