Winthrop Admissions Counselor: Sar OrtegaHello! My name is Sarai Ortega and I am a bilingual Admissions Counselor at Winthrop University.  I am originally from Hilton Head, South Carolina and graduated from Bluffton High School in 2015.  I graduated from Winthrop's Honors Program in December 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Modern Languages with a concentration in Spanish.

When I think of Winthrop, I think of opportunities and engagement.  As a student at Winthrop, I was a member of the Trio program, served as an Orientation Counselor, the Student Director of Orientation, worked in the Dacus library, and the Language Learning Center.  I also was an Admissions Assistant and involved with the Ambassador program, which allowed me to meet prospective students and share my Winthrop experience.  A highlight of my time as a student, was studying abroad for a semester in Seville, Spain where I was able to take classes for both of my majors while traveling Europe.

When I first visited campus, I was in awe of how gorgeous the University was.  Aside from Winthrop's beauty everyone was inviting and the atmosphere was very positive.  Winthrop is a very diverse college with small class sizes allowing students to create connections with their professors and peers.  My advice to prospective students is to make the best of every opportunity that is offered.

I am very excited to be a part of your journey.  Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.  I look forward to meeting you and seeing you around campus!
