What makes Winthrop special to you?

Winthrop is in Rock Hill, South Carolina which happens to be my father’s hometown. He and I both graduated from Winthrop. The feeling of carrying on this legacy gives me an immense amount of pride, knowing I completed a goal just like my role model. I was able to grow both personally and professionally while at Winthrop and I am very thankful for my college experience. Winthrop also has a very welcoming, inclusive, and diverse atmosphere where everyone including the professors genuinely care about you and your success. The classes are small and intimate which allow you to grow peer relationships and more easily grasp information. To cap it all off, the campus is beautiful. You can’t beat a Rock Hill sunset.

What is your favorite local restaurant?

My favorite restaurant in the area would have to be Island Grill and Pub. This is an amazing Caribbean restaurant with unbelievable oxtail. The beef patties are good too. Well, everything there is good! Trust me.

What is your favorite thing about Rock Hill?

The proximity to everything. I can be in Charlotte within thirty minutes, Columbia within an hour, and the beach in about two and a half hours. Not many places can say that. There is always something going on in Rock Hill or the surrounding areas. Believe it or not, it’s pretty difficult to be bored around here.

What advise would you give a student during their search process?

Go somewhere that feels like home, but you don’t necessarily have to stay home. It’s important to note that you will not only be taking classes at a university, but you will also be living in the community. You should always feel comfortable at your school of choice. Do your research and make the best decision you can.

Favorite food:  Pork Chops prepared any kind of way.
Favorite sport(s) to play:  Ultimate Frisbee and disc golf
Favorite Movie(s): The Last Samurai and Westside Story (the 1961 orginal)
Hobbies: Watching anime, fishing, planning trips that I never actually go on, and buying random items when they go on clearance.
