What makes Winthrop special to you?
What makes Winthrop special to me is that it is not only my alma mater but it is the
place that allotted me with an environment to grow personally and professionally.
Winthrop provided me with an opportunity to join/create an organization, study abroad,
develop linguistic skills, and become a Spanish peer tutor.
What do you love about Winthrop?
I love Winthrop because it allows students to be innovators, creators, explorers,
and travelers. It is Winthrop’s faculty and staff who play a big role in driving
students to reach these great heights and molding them into leaders of tomorrow. Winthrop
helps students to think critically, prepare for real-world experiences; while thriving
in a diverse environment.
What is your favorite local restaurant in Rock Hill?
I have two favorite local restaurants; Burgers & Barley, and Charanda’s Mexican Grill.
What is your favorite event to attend in Rock Hill or local area?
My favorite event to attend in Rock Hill is the Christmas Parade. Seeing the streets
illuminate with Christmas lights, smiling faces, laughter in the air, and the Rock
Hill community united, makes this event one that is unforgettable.
What is your favorite thing about Rock Hill?
My favorite thing about Rock Hill is that it is the best of both worlds. Rock Hill
provides a suburban feel while providing opportunities for all within the community;
students, families, and businesses.
Why should a student pick Winthrop?
If you are looking for a place to call your home away from home, a close knit community,
a place where you can excel beyond the classroom. Then Winthrop may be a good fit
for you! The Winthrop experience offers students the opportunity to explore beyond
their horizons by engaging in hands on experience, undergraduate research, professional
development, and by allowing students to choose to study abroad. Students are able
to find their niche through leadership opportunities, by joining an organization/by
creating their own. If you are looking for a university where you can be authentic,
establish one-on-one connections with faculty and staff, while receiving invaluable
education; then come join the Winthrop family.
What advice do you have for students during their search process?
During your college search, my advice to students is to keep your options open and
visit not one or two universities, but quite a few on your list. You will know if
a college is the best fit for you once you plant your feet on its campus. Additionally,
there are many are many outside scholarships for students before arriving to college.
Take the time, and write the essay. You will not regret it.
