What makes Winthrop special to you?  Winthrop University is a welcoming place that has made me feel like part of the eagle family since I got here. As I work toward a Doctorate, it has really impressed me to learn that Winthrop University allows students to be actively involved in research from their first year. This would have been an amazing opportunity for me as an undergraduate and it empowers Winthrop students with great opportunities.

What do you love about Winthrop?  The campus is full of character, excellently exampled by the handsome brick buildings and its large impressive oaks. I really love seeing the students hanging out and enjoying the campus green spaces, it rounds off the college experience nicely.  

What is your favorite local restaurant in Rock Hill?  Amelie’s French Bakery & Café hands down! I love their coffee, pastries, and relaxing atmosphere. Amelie’s always makes me feel like I should sit for hours and enjoy their jazz.  

What is your favorite event to attend in Rock Hill or local area?  I am gearing up to watch Charlotte FC, soccer club play their first season which is exciting. If it’s not soccer, it’s sightseeing or hiking. I enjoy exploring the architecture and art scenes of the Rock Hill and Charlotte area and hiking in Anne Springs Close Greenway right down the street.

 

What is your favorite thing about Rock Hill?  Rock Hill’s downtown area is my favorite part. It has a great welcoming personality and is buzzing with terrific food, fun street art, lovely green spaces, wonderful architecture, and good coffee spots.  

 

Why should a student pick Winthrop?  Winthrop University is ideal for any student looking to get mentor-style education in a diverse atmosphere without compromising access to a wide variety of opportunities. Between small class sizes, numerous clubs and organizations, connection to major companies and proximity to Charlotte, Winthrop offers the best of both worlds.

 

What advice do you have for students during their search process?  Take the pressure off. You don’t have to know exactly what job title or career you want to pursue, but narrow down your interests. Determining a field of study or discipline will help as you explore your school and program options. Then, definitely visiting the campus will help you ‘know’ which college or university is the right fit.
