Frank Pullano2

Frank Pullano Named the 2012-13 Outstanding Advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences

Frank B. Pullano, associate professor of mathematics and director of the LEAP program, has been named the 2012-13 Outstanding Advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences. This award, named in honor of former College Director of Student Services Lynn Harand, is a recognition of a faculty member’s commitment to students and willingness to invest time and energy in a process that is critical to the education of our students.

For more than 12 years students in the Department of Mathematics have experienced the benefits of Pullano’s advising. During the past seven years, Pullano became more involved in the LEAP program and in recent years became director. In this role, he advises students in practically every program across the university. According to Peter Judge, interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, in Pullano's inimitable way, whether in formal sessions or informal meetings with students, he is there with practical advice, knowledge about programs and requirements, and “tough love” for his “LEAPers.” He meets with more than 100 new LEAP students each year at Orientation and throughout their first, challenging year of college. One of his advisees noted that he is “always there, willing to listen and help any advisee.” It is quite clear that Pullano’s dedication to helping students reach their goals and maximize their potential has had a profound effect on students in the College of Arts and Sciences and throughout the university.

Pullano will receive the award formally at the College of Arts and Sciences Faculty Assembly in August.
