Open Enrollment for the 2015 Insurance Plan Year

Open enrollment for the upcoming insurance year has begun. During a special one-hour webinar, people can learn more about new options for their families. It is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 3-4 p.m. in 114 DiGiorgio Campus Center.

During open enrollment, eligible employees and their family members may enroll, drop or make changes to their coverage in the state health savings plan or the state health standard plan.

Men's Tennis Clinic

New men's tennis Coach Sergey Belov invites faculty and staff members to a free tennis clinic on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 10 a.m. on the Winthrop Tennis Courts. Kids and family members are welcome for the hour-long clinic.

Flu Vaccine

Health and Counseling Services will offer the Quadrivalent Seasonal Flue vaccine to all students, faculty, staff, spouses, retirees and friends ages 18 and older for $25. The fee can be charged to your Winthrop account or paid by check and cash. No credit or debit cards are accepted.

Flu clinic dates are Oct. 8 from 5-7 p.m. in the Margaret Nance lobby; Oct. 22 from 6:30-10 a.m. at the Facilities Wellness Fair at 349 Columbia Avenue; and Oct .30 from 7:30 a.m.-noon in the West Center.

International Center 'Volunteers' for Students

Winthrop has 194 international students on campus this semester. Many faculty and staff members have asked the International Center how they can help welcome these students to campus, be it inviting them to their home for a meal or driving them to the airport. 2014-15 Parking Stickers Available

Faculty and staff can now purchase the 2014-15 parking stickers. The cost of the permit is $25 with a limit of two per person.

Permits can be purchased online and mailed to your home or picked up at Campus Police. All disabled permits must be purchased at Campus Police. Parking office hours are 8:30 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Fall 2014 Regional Retirement Seminars

If you are one year or less away from retirement eligibility, the South Carolina Public Employee Benefit Authority (PEBA) wants to help ensure you have the information you need to make the retirement decisions that are best for you. We offer a one-day retirement seminar designed to answer your questions and more. Presenters from PEBA Retirement and Insurance Benefits, the South Carolina Deferred Compensation Program, and the Social Security Administration will provide you with the information needed to successfully navigate the retirement process. Payroll Update for Fiscal Year 2014-15

The final phase of the retirement contribution rate increase will occur in the 2014-15 fiscal year. Employees who are currently participating in one of the retirement system programs will see the rate increase in their first pay that occurs on or after July 1. Please see below for the rate increase amount for each retirement system program.
•Retirement contribution rate
-South Carolina Retirement System (SCRS) – Increase from 7.5% to 8.0%
-Optional Retirement Program (ORP) – Increase from 7.5% to 8.0%
-Police Officers Retirement System (PORS) – Increase from 7.84% to 8.41%

Also, all regular faculty and staff will receive a 2% general increase for the 2014-15 fiscal year. The details of this pay change are available in Wingspan in the Job Summary/Detail section of the Employee tab.
