Donate School Supplies to Children in Need

The Center for Career and Civic Engagement invites you to participate in its Back-to-School Supply Drive! The school supplies you donate will benefit children in the local Boyd Hill neighborhood. Winthrop students will be partnering with the Boyd Hill community throughout the school year; help us start the year off right!

Donations are being collected from now until Wednesday, Aug. 27, in a drop-off box in the Center for Career and Civic Engagement located in Crawford Building. Supplies will be given to students on Thursday, Aug. 28 at the Back-2-School Bash at the Boyd Hill Recreation Center.

Supplies needed:
Pens (Blue/Black)
Crayola Crayons
Crayola Markers
Color Pencils
Glue Sticks
Composition books
Wide-rule loose leaf paper
Plastic pocket folder

2014-15 Parking Stickers Available

Faculty and staff can now purchase the 2014-15 parking stickers. The cost of the permit is $25 with a limit of two per person.

Permits can be purchased online and mailed to your home or picked up at Campus Police. All disabled permits must be purchased at Campus Police. Parking office hours are 8:30 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Back to School Bookstore Hours

The Winthrop University Bookstore will hire temporary back-to-school employees for part-time hours between Aug. 18-31. Hired employees can expect to work about 5-10 days. Store hours are 8:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Friday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and 1-6 p.m. Sunday. Students can also apply, as as they can work three- to four-hour shifts.

Fall 2014 Regional Retirement Seminars

If you are one year or less away from retirement eligibility, the South Carolina Public Employee Benefit Authority (PEBA) wants to help ensure you have the information you need to make the retirement decisions that are best for you. We offer a one-day retirement seminar designed to answer your questions and more. Presenters from PEBA Retirement and Insurance Benefits, the South Carolina Deferred Compensation Program, and the Social Security Administration will provide you with the information needed to successfully navigate the retirement process. Payroll Update for Fiscal Year 2014-15

The final phase of the retirement contribution rate increase will occur in the 2014-15 fiscal year. Employees who are currently participating in one of the retirement system programs will see the rate increase in their first pay that occurs on or after July 1. Please see below for the rate increase amount for each retirement system program.
•Retirement contribution rate
-South Carolina Retirement System (SCRS) – Increase from 7.5% to 8.0%
-Optional Retirement Program (ORP) – Increase from 7.5% to 8.0%
-Police Officers Retirement System (PORS) – Increase from 7.84% to 8.41%

Also, all regular faculty and staff will receive a 2% general increase for the 2014-15 fiscal year. The details of this pay change are available in Wingspan in the Job Summary/Detail section of the Employee tab.
