Songwriting Workshop with Joe Newberry
Award winning songwriter Joe Newberry will help you focus on making your good songs even better, or get you started if you only have a trunk full of ideas. The workshop will use examples of different types of songs - narrative, chorus / verse, free-form, with an eye and ear toward simplifying the words to uncover the heart of the song. Through word play and writing, writing, and more writing, the song in your head can become the song on your lips.
Joe is internationally known for his powerful banjo work, but he is a prizewinning guitarist, fiddler, and singer as well. Joe's songwriting is characterized by the same clean, elegant style as his banjo playing. The Gibson Brothers’ version of his song "Singing As We Rise," featuring guest vocalist Ricky Skaggs, won the 2012 IBMA "Gospel Recorded Performance" award. In 2013, Joe shared co-writing honors with Eric Gibson for the IBMA Song of the Year, “They Called It Music.”
Joe Newberry has become one of North Carolina’s most celebrated artists, as a solo performer, as a part of numerous groups, duos and bands, and a frequent guest on Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion.
$50, includes lunch and evening concert.
