WebCT Information for Instructors
Instructions
for Tracking Students and Pages in WebCT
Hits = Number of times the student accessed the Homepage, a tool, or a content module page. Read = Number of articles the student has accessed in Discussions. Posted = Number of articles the student has posted to Discussions. *Read/Posted specifically track discussion postings only. Therefore, if there are no postings in Discussions, Read and Posted will register 0. If the student has accessed tool links from their account such as Quizzes and Email, they will not be shown as logging in for that course because they bypassed the main page of the course. Students will only be recognized as logging in, and therefore be tracked, if they click the main link to the course from their account and therefore go to the default homepage. WebCT will not track students unless they first go to the default page of the course. If a student takes a test past the allotted time, their answers before the end time will be in black, and answers posted after the end time will be in red If you want to more closely monitor the tracking of your students, you have the option of either eliminating links to tools such as Quizzes from their homepage, and/or eliminating display of those tools altogether on their homepage. That way, they have to click on the main title link to get to your course in order to access tools such as quizzes, and thus tracking will take effect. However, it is not possible to track the duration of how long a specific student was at a given page. This is because the connection between a web server and a client desktop is effectively terminated after each request (eg. click) is handled. Individual pages that are not part of a content module will not be tracked. Therefore, if you wish to track a given page, you must insert it within a content module.
