RE:                         Proposed changes in CVPA By-Laws

The Office of the Dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts proposes two changes in the CVPA By-Laws.

Current Guidelines:

In Section 3 of Article VI – Constituent Committees, the Assistant/Associate Dean serves as chair of the (CVPA) Petitions Committee without a vote. 

In Section 2 of Article VIII – Graduate Committee, the Assistant/Associate Dean serves as chair of the (CVPA) Graduate Committee without a vote. 

Proposed Changes:

Change the chair of the Petitions Committee to the CVPA Student Services Coordinator.

Change the chair of the Graduate Committee to the CVPA Director of Graduate Studies.

Rationale for Changes:

When the By-Laws were established, the Assistant/Associate Dean handled petitions and graduate curriculum and petitions.  With changes in staffing, petitions are now handled by the CVPA Student Services Coordinator and graduate matters are handled by the Director of Graduate Studies.  Changing the chairs of those committees will make CVPA’s structure consistent with that of other colleges at Winthrop.

Voting on Changes:

These proposed changes will be presented for discussion and approval at the CVPA Faculty Meeting on Friday, August 30^th at 2:00 p.m.
