          - 150 freshman and transfers this Fall

          - Interior Design Program has been recertified for another 6 years by the Council for Interior Design
       Accreditation (formerly FIDER)

         - Jerry Walden has stepped down from A&D's Chair position and has returned to teaching full-time

         - Paul Martyka has returned from a year-long sabbatical

o       Music – Don Rogers

          - Due to increased enrollment, Music has hired 10 new part-time faculty members

          - Sept. 14 - Duo Pianists - Janice Bradner and Emily Urbanek

          - Sept. 24 - Concert on the Lawn - in front of Byrnes Auditorium

o       Theatre & Dance - Andrew Vorder Bruegge

         - T&D will conduct 2 searches this year for dance education and Acting (theatre) full-time tenure-track faculty
     members

         - Sandra Neels is working with Brevard College.

         - Janet Gray worked this past summer again at Flat Rock Playhouse

o       CVPA Student Services - Kimberly Wright

          - At 10 a.m., the 10th 2006 Orientation session will begin

          - This Monday at 11:15 a.m., faculty are asked to be present for the departmental portion of the CVPA Freshman
       Assembly

o       ABC Project – Christine Fisher

         - This past summer through a State Department of Education grant, the ABC Project held 18 institutes for
      classroom teachers and art teachers - a total of over 600 teachers.

         - The Kennedy Center for Artists in Residence has asked to use ABC's model for their training purposes

         - Tuesday, the ABC Project Task Force will make a case to the SC Department of Education for Theatre to be
      included as one of the core arts classes.  Currently, only visual art, creative writing, music, and dance are on
      this list.

         - There are now 50 ABC districts/schools in the state of South Carolina.  One of these is Northside Elementary in
      Rock Hill which just changed its name to Northside Elementary School of the Arts.  Northside offers arts
      classes in all 5 arts areas (dance, music, theatre, visual art, and creative writing).

         - Chester Elementary (along the I-95 corridor) is also offering all 5 arts areas to its students.

o       Winthrop Galleries – Tom Stanley

          - The 18th Annual Undergraduate Juried Exhibition will be on display until August 24th.

          - September 4th an exhibition of Leo Twiggs artwork will open.

          - Force of Nature, a residential artists program in conjunction with Clemson, UNC-Charlotte, College of
      Charleston, and the McColl Arts Center, will involve 10 contemporary Japanese.

                - Two of these artists will be on the Winthrop campus from September 2 to October 15th -
            
Yumiko Yamazaki and Rikuo Ueda

                - In conjunction with the Fort of Nature exhibition, Theatre & Dance is having a
            production of
Rashomon in the Johnson Studio Theatre October 25 - 29.

                - Ron Parks, Music, has composed a piece entitled Drift for music faculty member Tomoko
            Deguchi.  This composition will be performed at UNC-Charlotte and at the Winthrop
            Galleries Opening Reception on Friday, October 13 - 6:30 - 8 p.m. in the Rutledge Gallery.

         - The Leo Twiggs Exhibition is also part of the new Dalton Downtown Arts Initiative Event. These events are off
     campus (either downtown or at Clinton Junior College) and have been organized by Winthrop Galleries and are
     funded by Becca and Harry Dalton. Winthrop University Galleries will be responsible for maintaining cultural
     credit attendance for undergraduate students at these events.

               - Part of the Dalton Downtown Arts Initiative includes the exhibition Girlstories and a gallery talk with
           Kathy Yancey, Tonya Gregg, Barbara Schreiber and Paula Smith on October 5th at 6:30 p.m. in Downtown
           Rock Hill at the Center for the Arts.

          - the CVPA Fall 2006 Calendar of Events will be distributed the week of August 28th to everyone on campus.
