Recreational Facilities and Opportunities
Winthrop’s recreational facilities fall into two categories: those open to the general public, and those that are available only to members of the Winthrop community (faculty/staff/students), Inn at Winthrop guests and other designated groups.
Many of the recreational opportunities afforded the general public are located at the east campus Lake Area Recreational and Research Complex approximately 1 mile from central campus off Eden Terrace. The complex comprises the Winthrop Coliseum, Winthrop Lake, and numerous athletics and recreational fields. The challenging 18-hole disc golf course surrounding the lake and coliseum has been the site of the U.S. and World Disc Golf championships. A one-mile loop surrounding the Winthrop Lake is one of approximately five miles of walking and bike trails that criss-cross the complex and conveniently connect to Rock Hill’s public trails.
Members of the Winthrop community, Inn at Winthrop guests and other designated groups also may access a number of other recreational facilities including a 9-hole golf course and a new 12-court tennis complex.
A group team-building experience at Winthrop’s Outdoor Educational Center (ropes course) also may be arranged for a fee.
