Pre-Major
Advising

Whether you are totally unsure of your
future major or simply trying to decide between two fields
of study, you can work toward your educational goals as a
pre-major at Winthrop University.
A part of University College, the Pre-Major
Advising Center, located in 106 Kinard Hall, provides
academic advice and assistance to entering students who do
not wish to initially declare a major at Winthrop.
Faculty advisors throughout the College of Arts and Sciences
are available to provide help with academic concerns,
including answering questions about course schedules,
dropping courses, transfer of credit, and petitions.
The center is open from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday
through Friday, and may be reached by contacting
(803)323-2183 or by email at
casstudentserv@winthrop.edu.
Pre-major students should follow the General
Education Distribution Requirements in selecting courses to
take each semester. Approved courses for these
requirements are listed in the Undergraduate Catalog or
online at
www.winthrop.edu/recandreg/catalogs/online.htm. In
addition, Degree Checklists provide a tool for pre-majors to
use in monitoring progress toward completion of the General
Education Requirements. Copies of the Degree
Checklists are available in the College of Arts and Sciences
Office of Student Services, Kinard Hall 106, or online
through the Alphabetical Listing of Majors.
