Office of Admissions

In support of Winthrop’s goal to provide a distinctive undergraduate experience for a carefully selected student body of high academic achievement and cultural diversity, the Office of Admissions serves prospective students and their families as they navigate the college selection process. Expedient and courteous service is the cornerstone of our marketing, recruiting, and admissions processing.

The Office of Admissions is organized into two departments: Admissions Operations and Recruitment.  Admissions staff members across the two departments work as a team to attract, select and enroll Winthrop’s diverse and high-achieving student body.

Student Recruitment

The recruitment staff provides exemplary service to the broad spectrum of stakeholders in the college selection process - prospective students, applicants, parents, secondary and post-secondary school counselors, Winthrop faculty and staff, and the general public.  We provide information, appropriate follow-up to inquiries, and timely decisions to applicants. We work to increase awareness of Winthrop throughout South Carolina and in other states by participating in college fair programs that are held off-campus.  We also host a variety of events on campus to share the distinctive Winthrop experience.

Admissions Operations

The operations staff employs a quality improvement program that focuses on utilizing technology and workflow processes to maintain and improve our level of effectiveness and service. Services include data entry for prospective students and all undergraduate applicants (freshman, transfer, second baccalaureate, non-degree and senior citizen), document imaging, and communication generation. The admissions web pages provides information on steps in the admissions process along with additional content that has proven useful to prospective students and their families. The initial decision on an undergraduate student’s eligibility to pay in-state tuition rates is rendered by the Office of Admissions.
