Jones is the dean of University College and an associate professor of English. In her more than 25 years at Winthrop – during which she has received the Faculty Student Life Award, the Kinard Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the Margaret Bryant Endowed Professorship in English – she has served as the director of the Writing Center, the director of writing, and the chair of the Department of English before becoming dean of University College in 2008.
Her research has focused primarily on 20th-century British and American literature, and her teaching has been in these fields also, as well as in literary theory and advanced grammar – a course she still teaches.
