RESOLUTION TO
AUTHORIZE THE PRESIDENT
TO AWARD BONUSES FOR MERITORIOUS PERFORMANCE FOR SELECTED FACULTY AND
STAFF
WHEREAS, Section 59-101-710 of the South Carolina Code of Laws provides
that public institutions of higher learning may spend federal and other
non-state appropriated sources of revenue to provide lump-sum bonuses;
and
WHEREAS, Section 59-101-710 provides that this payment is not a part of
the employee’s base salary and is not earnable compensation for purposes
of employee and employer contributions to the respective retirement
systems; and
WHEREAS, The Board of Trustees does recognize there are selected faculty
and staff who make contributions above and beyond those required of
their position duties;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF WINTHROP
UNIVERSITY does hereby authorize the President to award bonuses to
faculty and staff who make contributions which result in increased
productivity, improved work processes, exceptional customer service,
realized cost savings, or other specific contributions to the success of
the organization.
