The Shack - 1932

A unique facility overlooking the Winthrop Lake, the Shack is a lodge that has been used though the years for various student and faculty activities. Winthrop's fifth president, Charles S. Davis, who served from 1959-73, enjoyed outings here so much that students called it "Charlie's Chateau." In the early 1960s the building was moved a few feet east of its original site and brick veneer was added. The facility was renovated in 2003, and is now a more representative facility used not only for faculty and student events, but also as a conference space for the general public.
