This
stone bench reflects words from Archie O. Joslin’s speech
addressing the Rock Hill Chamber of Commerce in 1951: “It
is they, the human element…what they do. What they say. As
we lay stone upon stone, a time will come when these
stones will be held as sacred because our hands have
touched them.” |

Joslin served as president of M. Lowenstein
Corporation, parent company of the Rock Hill Printing and
Finishing Company. Etching his words in stone calls
attention to the Courtyard having been built on the site
of the community’s textile industry. The stone work and
design was created by students Joey Hays and Brent Owens.
The etching was made possible by a gift from Capstone
Development Corporation of Birmingham, Ala. |
