The well adjacent to Tillman Hall is one of five original wells that once provided water for the campus community. Water from this particular well was stored in a 24,000 gallon tank located directly under Tillman's  bell tower. A wooden structure stood at the site from 1901–05 and was used by campus security as an office. In 1906 the current brick structure was built.
