Reach Out and Read
Reach Out and Read is an
excellent opportunity for volunteers who enjoy making a difference in the lives of
children and families.
Reach Out and
Read is a program that makes early literacy a part of pediatric primary care.
Children whose
parents read aloud to them, even babies, have a higher rate of success in school than
children whose parents do not.
Through Reach
Out and Read, every child starts school with a home library of a least ten beautiful
children's books, and parents understand that reading aloud is the most important thing
they can do to help their children learn to love books and to start school ready.
Volunteer
readers in the clinic waiting room read aloud to children as they wait for their
appointment, showing parents and children the pleasures and techniques of looking at books
with children.
Becoming a
volunteer reader gives you the opportunity to transform clinic waiting rooms into positive
learning environments for children and parents.
