Description of Organization: Winthrop's Society of Professional Journalists is a group of individuals interested in supporting high standards of ethics, diversity in journalism, and the protection of First Amendment rights such as freedom of speech and press. In order to effectively accomplish these goals we utilize television, radio, newspapers, our vote, and any other medium that may reach the masses. WSPJ is not limited to professional journalists or mass communication students, but is open to all who have a desire to protect their First Amendment freedoms and interest in reaching the public through the use of mass media.
Planned Projects/Events: We plan to have guest speakers from all fields of mass communication. We will also hold workshops for students on topics like technology used in mass communication and how to get their first job in mass communication. We host an annual essay contest for high schoolers and hold a ceremony for the winners.
