Office of Institutional Effectiveness

Identification and Assessment of Program Outcomes
FY2009 Grant Program

The Office of Institutional Effectiveness (IE) supports faculty and staff in accomplishing the work of accountability and continuous improvement, providing assistance campus wide with data access/collection, surveys, assessment, and self studies.

The Identification and Assessment of Program Outcomes grant opportunity is one way the IE Office provides support to the campus community.  This program provides an opportunity for faculty, working with students, to engage in the selection and development of outcomes assessment projects for instructional programs campus wide.  The ultimate goal of these projects should be the establishment of a quality doable annual cycle of assessment.  Successful proposals will clearly demonstrate progress on:

  1. The specification and documentation of program level, or “hallmark” outcomes of the instructional or service department (including the use of prescribed outcomes per program specific accreditation guidelines such as NCATE, ABET and AACSB).
  2. The identification of measurable and/or ascertainable criteria for intended student learning outcomes, as well as service unit administrative objectives.
  3. The selection of appropriate assessment vehicles (the venue or environment in which assessment takes place – such as a classroom or computer lab) and tools (the actual assessment instruments that collect data – such as a standardized exam or portfolio).
  4. The potential impact on curriculum and pedagogy
  5. Student involvement in the project, including project design, activities and accomplishments
  6. The establishment of an annual cycle of departmental assessment that “closes the loop” on three intended student learning outcomes each year.
