Application Information

 Special note to out-of-state residents: Winthrop University offers graduate-level in-state tuition to residents of the following North Carolina counties:  Mecklenburg, Gaston, Alexander, Anson, Cabarrus, Catawba, Cleveland, Iredell, Lincoln, Roman, Stanly and Union.  Applicants who are residents of these counties may request further details about this option from the Winthrop University Office of Graduate Studies at 1-800-411-7041 or 803-323-2204.

The following documents constitute the application for admission to the Weekend MSW Program: 

1.                  A completed Winthrop University Graduate Studies application
(http://www.winthrop.edu/graduate-studies/application.htm ).

2.                  GRE scores (800 or higher preferred) or MAT scores (36-42 preferred)

3.                  Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended (request forms available at http://www.winthrop.edu/graduate-studies/MSWadmissionrequirements.htm)

4.                  A completed MSW Application Supplement including the following: 

a)      Professional Resume

b)      A 3-5 page Personal Statement (Times New Roman 12 pt font) of the following:

·        The major reasons for your interest in the profession of social work;

·        A description of voluntary or paid experiences you have had in working with people (type of setting; length of experience; what you learned while participating);

·        Human Diversity: Discuss experiences you have had which make you believe you can work effectively with people from backgrounds that reflect differences in gender, religion, sexual orientation, abilities and racial, ethnic and socioeconomic status;

·        Of the diversity groups listed above, discuss whom would you have the most difficulty working with and why;

·        Discuss how you view your career goals and interests in relation to the Winthrop MSW Program mission, program goals, and Program Concentration in Community and Individual Empowerment; and,

·        If you believe your record does not reflect your potential for satisfactory graduate work, please also discuss why you believe you are now able to be successful in the MSW Program.

Review of applications will begin on February 1, and will continue on a rolling basis until enrollment for each cohort is filled
