Welcome to Project REACH

Project REACH (REtention and ACHievement) strives to improve student retention rates and implement programs that encourage and enable students to find their potential and reach their goals.

Not every student will complete a degree at Winthrop University. Some attrition is unavoidable. However attrition often represents a missed opportunity for both students and the university. We want students to graduate. We want students to succeed.

Overall, Winthrop is doing well. Our current retention and graduation rates are comparable to those in similar institutions across the country. But we want to do better. With the combined efforts of students, faculty, and staff we believe we can. We hope this site will be a useful tool in achieving that mission.

Students: Are you struggling with your classes? Are you confused about academic or career goals? Are you frustrated by social or personal issues? If not, do you know someone who is? Our Student Guide to Success might help you identify strategies to conquer the obstacles you and other students face. Give it a try.

Faculty and staff: Are you aware of current retention efforts at Winthrop? Can you identify the campus resources available to help students? Do you wonder how you might personally assist at-risk students? Check out our Faculty Guide to Student Success for ideas or read the Advisor Toolkit available online now in pdf format.

Members of the Winthrop community command an impressive array of creative talents. Can we harness these to improve retention? Help us. What else can we do?

Students: You know why you fail or succeed. You know why your friends fail or succeed. What can we do to help? How can we help students reach their potential at Winthrop University?

Faculty and staff: You interact with students every day. You see what works and what does not. Many of you have experience at other institutions. How can we help students reach their potential at Winthrop University?
