Connect 4 Class
Connect 4 Class is a new program in the residence halls designed to connect you with your fellow Winthrop students to create study groups focused on an individual course and to help you succeed academically. Connect 4 Class allows you to easily connect with other students who want to meet to discuss concepts, review notes and study together for a specific class. Connect 4 Class works around your schedule, by allowing you to indicate when you’re available and matching you with others with similar availability. You’ll receive contact information for others who are interested in being in a study group and together you can find a time that works for your schedules. Additionally, by connecting through this program, your group will be provided the opportunity to reserve Residence Hall study spaces to meet.
To get started, simply click “Participate in Connect 4 Class” or e-mail Katie Sardelli with any questions.
How Does It Work?
Requesting to participate in Connect 4 Class is easy. Simply follow the steps below:
- Click on the “Participate in Connect 4 Class” link and fill out your information.
- Your request will be sent to the Department of Residence Life who will use the information you provided to match you with other students looking to form a study group in the same course. (Keep in mind the contact information you provide will be shared with other students looking for a study group).
- Once Residence Life is able to make a match for your course (we need at least two students requesting the same course to form a group), you will be contacted with the name and contact information of other students interested in being in the group. Or, Residence Life will contact a pre-existing group and ask if you may join them.
- As a group, you will then contact one another and set up a meeting time.
- Once formed, one member of your group should register your group through the “Register Your Study Group” link. By doing so, you will be provided the opportunity to reserve study space in the residence halls for your study group to meet.
Why Should I Use Connect 4 Class and Not Just Try to Find Other Students in My Class?
While meeting with students in your class is a great idea, Connect 4 Class will allow you to be matched with students across campus, who are interested in forming a study group. This means you may be connected with students who sit on the other side of the classroom, or are taking the same course, but just at a different time.
Will I Be Matched With Other Students in the Same Section of the Course?
We will make every effort to match you as closely with other students in the same section of the course you request. However, depending on who else requests a study group that may not be possible. We will then try to match by professor, but at minimum will match you by course.
How Many Students Will Be in the Group?
We will begin to match students once there are two or more people interested in a study group. However, an ideal size for a group is four to six. Therefore, as requests for courses are received, we may contact your group to let you know another person wants to join.
How Will We Know What to Do During Our Study Group?
In addition to being provided with contact information for other members of your group, you will also receive information with tips on how to create and work with a successful study group.
How Often Will These Study Groups Meet?
How and when you meet is entirely up to the members of your group. Connect 4 Class is designed simply to match you with other students interested in forming a study group.
Where Will These Study Groups Meet?
Where you meet is up to your group members. However, if you “register” your group once it’s formed, by clicking the “Register Your Study Group” link, you will be able to reserve study space in the residence halls up to once a week during the current semester.
What Information Will You Share With Others?
We request you provide us with contact information, course information and your availability. This information will be shared with other students looking to form a study group in the same course as you request. We will never share your student ID number with other students.
