The West Center is home to an 8-lane, 25 yard pool for students and West Center members to use at their own leisure. The pool ranges in depth from 4 to 13 feet. The Office of Recreational Services offers a variety of aquatic programming as well as open lap swim throughout the day. The West Center pool is also used for instructional purposes, intramural events and other programming offered through the Office of Recreational Services.
Listed below are the different aquatics programs that are currently offered through the Office of Recreational Services:
Aqua Tone: Water Aerobics. No swimming skills required. Use of water weights, kickboards, and other equipment enable a whole body workout while bearing very little weight on joints.
Water Running: A great cardio workout. Get in shape without any impact at all. This class incorporates running with resistance in both the shallow and deep end of the pool.
Swimming Lessons: Private swim lessons are available to swimmers of all levels. For more information or to sign up, ask the front desk for a registration form. Lessons will cost $10 each and can be purchased in 4-class packs. These lessons are only available to students and West Center members.
All aquatics programs are open to Winthrop University students and West Center members.
