Aquatics
The West Center is home to an 8-lane, 25 yard pool for students and West Center members to use at their own leisure. The pool ranges in depth from 4 to 13 feet. The Office of Recreational Services offers a variety of aquatic programming as well as open lap swim throughout the day. The West Center pool is also used for instructional purposes, intramural events and other programming offered through the Office of Recreational Services.
Listed below are the different aquatics programs that are currently offered through the Office of Recreational Services:
Aqua Tone: Water Aerobics. No swimming skills required. Use of water weights, kickboards, and other equipment enable a whole body workout while bearing very little weight on joints.
Swim Trainer: Improve your stroke, endurance, and confidence in the pool This class is intended for intermediate to advanced swimmers and will offer a group workout with an experienced instructor.
Water Running: A great cardio workout. Get in shape without any impact at all. This class incorporates running with resistance in both the shallow and deep end of the pool.
Group Lessons: Registration is required to take part in group lessons. Sessions will consist of 8 lessons and will be offered twice per semester. See the front desk for more details. For beginner swimmers and Winthrop University students only.
All aquatics programs are free and open to Winthrop University students and West Center members.
